Around 30 skating enthusiasts participated in our latest Night Skate. Themed after a popular folklore - Journey to the West, the story is about a monk who travelled a long journey to the west with his 3 disciples to attain enlightment.

We began our very own 17.5km journey from Vivocity and travelled on the outskirts of the island, along Telok Blangah Road and Pasir Panjang Road heading in the direction to West Coast Park. We passed by some of the new circle line MRT stations on our way and reached Pasir Panjang Wholesale Centre - the biggest wholesale centre in Singapore eventually. Some skaters who could not make it in time to start off with us from Vivocity were wise to meet up with us from these MRT stations instead.

All the participants had one thing on their minds, which was to reach our pit stop quickly. And that spot is none other than the MacDonald's restaurant and cafe located inside West Coast Park. This fast food joint is perhaps the only place to find food and beverage in the park and very popular with park goers as it has a drive-thru too.

After the good rest, we continued on our journey along West Coast Highway towards Jurong. This portion of the journey took us past some of the industrial areas in the South Western part of the island which was quiet and peaceful. There was an overhead bridge to cross near Tanglin Secondary School in order for us to cross over the roundabout road which branches to Jalan Buloh and West Coast Road.

We arrived at Commonwealth Secondary School soon after and turned into Jurong Town Hall Road. After crossing under Teban Flyover and the Ayer Rajah Expressway, we reached the Singapore Science Centre and Snow City soon after.

We made a turn again at Boon Lay Way and headed towards Chinese Garden MRT Station where we had a short break. There were only 2 MRT stations left to the end point and everyone was taking it easy and chilling out at Cheers convenient store located at the station.

Finally, our entourage completed the journey and arrived at Jurong Point at about 10:50pm. It took us about 3 hours to finished the journey and everyone were tired but satisfied at their achievement.

This was most evident for one of the participants, a little girl named Shi Kai, aged 6. She has been absent for a few night skates due to her family's busy schedule, and she was absolutely delighted to be back again, with the support from her parents. Completing such a long journeyis an amazing feat for a little girl like Shi Kai, and it gave us great encouragement.
