The Learn-To-Skate Program (LTS)

The Learn-To-Skate (tm) (LTS) program is the progressive list of skating skills you will learn at Skateline.

The program was established in 1999. Skateline has continuously developed the program over a decade with student and instructor feedback to deliver the most effective teaching methods to master core skills.

It consists of over 30 skating skills across 6 levels, ranging the most fundamental skills to eye-popping ‘stunt’ moves. It is based on the core skills of the Inline Certification Program (ICP). ICP is the most widely adopted standard for certification of inline skating instructors worldwide.

Learn to Skate (LTS) Program overview:
Level 1 & 2: Beginner skills
Level 3 & 4: Intermediate skills
Level 5 & 6: Advanced skills
4 lessons per level.

A skater can track his/her own progress with the LTS booklet, a personal record-book of skating skills.

INLINE FUNSTART(tm) or IFS

IFS is the first lesson we teach to a total-beginner. The objective is to give students
a firm understanding of balance, safety and control of centre-of-gravity (CG). Beside protecting students from common unnecessary injury, these fundamental skills allow students to learn other skating skills more effectively.

• Proper wearing of  safety equipment and skates
• How to stand up on skates safely and remain balanced
• Controlled falling technique
• Safe balance postures and fall avoidance postures
• Proper skating movement

LEVEL 1

The most important basics of skating are learnt here. Mastery of these fundamental skills is essential for successful progression to higher skills.

Lesson 1
Basic skating movement

Lesson 2
Basic stopping with heel brakes

Lesson 3
Basic turning

Lesson 4
Alternate basic skating movement
Balance and stroking exercise

LEVEL 2

Focuses on improving stride and balance. It introduces turns involving rotary and edging motion.   Skaters completing this level will skate with more efficiency and grace.

Lesson 1
Advanced beginner skating movement
One-foot balance exercises

Lesson 2
Stopping with heel brakes with increased balance and braking pressure
One-foot balance exercises

Lesson 3
Turning with corresponding edges

Lesson 4
Advanced beginner movement, stroking with both feet

LEVEL 3

This level features challenging intermediate skating, stopping and turning skills which require confident one-foot balance, good form and higher power.

Lesson 1
Fitness skating movement

Lesson 2
Advanced stopping with rotary motion (without using heel brakes)

Lesson 3
Continuous turning and movement
("Crossover")

Lesson 4
Advanced stopping with wheel drag (without using heel brakes)

LEVEL 4

Level 4 focuses on backward movement, drawing on all the skills learnt so far. Students who complete this level will skate with more power, agility and versatility.

Backward skating movement
Backward stopping

Lesson 2
Backward skating movement

Lesson 3
Two methods of changing direction from forward to backward

Lesson 4

Power and quick-accurate rotary motion are the features of the skills in this level. Skaters who complete this level will have confidence and control in high speed and demanding moves.

Lesson 1
High speed turn
High speed stop

Lesson 2
Stroking and gliding on one-foot

Lesson 3
Stopping with heelbrake on one foot
Forward Powerslide

Lesson 4
